On October 20-22 near Novouralsk, experts on nuclear nonproliferation, professors, and students from the Urals and western Siberia, along with ten Americans from the Orinda Academy in California gathered to participate in the forum "Educating Students about Nonproliferation." The event was organized and sponsored by the Nuclear Cities Educational Information Center, the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies at the Monterey Institute of International Studies, and Swedish Radiation Safety Authority. It focused on the techniques and content needed to educate a new generation of Russians and Americans involved in explaining the dangers of nuclear nonproliferation and the need for nuclear security.
Consul General Mike Reinert presented a letter of congratulations from Ambassador John Beyrle to Ms. Lubov Schekaleva, the director of the Nuclear Cities Education and Information Center, marking the 10th anniversary of the Nuclear Cities Education and Information Center and its role in educating future generations about the importance of nonproliferation.
